Plug.events is run as a collective. Contributors work for a share in the project. We have no salaries or income. In fact, for 4 years, our founders have had no income, choosing to invest to deliver their shared vision. Originally we sought venture capital to build this, but quickly realized that the VC industry is largely responsible for this product not having been built by someone previously; and we were not willing to conform to the ideology of growth for growth’s sake, without consideration for the negative consequences on users and society.

As we said elsewhere, we have aligned our business model so that we make a profit when your communities and incomes grow.

The truth is that this has been incredibly challenging. The project costs €2500 per year to run, including development tools and hosting and other expenses, which will rise to €7,500 after 2024. All of this amount is currently covered by us, the founders.
